District Attorney's Office Sworn In
             Monday, January 3, 2005, Sam
Oatman, District Attorney for the 33rd District
and his staff were sworn in for a new year.
District Judge Guilford Jones, recently sworn in
for his 3rd term, did the honors.  This year
begins the fifth term for Oatman.  He believes
all employees of his office are public servants
including support staff and requires the same
oath be given them as required for all public
officials.  Oatman says “I believe it gives proper
dignity to the office and instills all of my
employees the high level of responsibility and
trust expected of the District Atttorney’s office to
law enforcement.”
Prior to giving the Oath of Office,
Judge Jones complimented the DA and staff for
its commitment to cooperating with the 33rd
Judicial District judiciary in moving cases.  Also
Jones challenged the office with continuing the
dedication of keeping the system moving and
also gave an encouraging reminder of what
“public service” is.
Oatman follows the footsteps of his
grandfather Wilburn F.P. Oatman who was
elected District Attorney for the 33rd Judicial
District in 1900.  The district then had two
additional counties to the present four of
Blanco, Burnet, Llano and San Saba.  Mr.
Oatman and the then District Judge Slator
made their court appearances by way of horse
and buggy, taking at least a day for each
county.  D.A. Oatman says “little has changed
but the manner of transportation and the
75,000 people now in the present 4 county
district.”
